Yours Truly
a little bit
about me
Hi! My name is Kari Christie and I’m a graphic and web designer from the Pacific Northwest of the United States. I recently moved to Phoenix, Arizona and am working while taking on freelance projects.
my
education
I recently graduated from Washington State University (WSU) with a bachelor’s degree in Digital Technology and Culture (specializing in Multimedia Authoring), another bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts (Studio), and a minor in Professional Writing. Additionally, I spent a semester studying Computer Science and Fine Arts at Aberystwyth University in Wales. This interdisciplinary combination of studies affords me a very strong knowledge of design, visual rhetoric, technical and professional writing, computer science and the arts.
design
principles
As there was no explicit “graphic design” major at my University, I chose Digital Technology and Fine Arts in the hopes that I could master each to create a design aesthetic that meets in the middle. I hope to design with key skills obtained in the Fine Arts (color, composition, illustration, typography) while still maintaining a strong infrastructure based in Computer Science (information architecture, universal usability, interface design, graphics optimization). In other words, I like to marry the techie and the artsy to be the most well-rounded designer I can be. Additionally, much of my Digital Technology and Culture degree focuses on understanding and embracing a culture increasingly influenced by technology. Therefore understanding social media and digital marketing is a field I’m passionate about.
professional
experience
I knew I wanted to be a designer in entering college and have thus been working in the field for several years now. Some of my most relevant experience has been as Graphics Manager of the Daily Evergreen, Graphics Coordinator of WSU’s Student Computing Services, and as a Graphic (and on occasion Web) Designer for organizations like The Image Shop, the Moscow Daily News, and SeaProducts West inc. I have extensive experience in freelance design as well. Much of my professional work thus far has been in front-end web design, vector illustration, logo design, branding and identity, advertisement, packaging and print design.
