During the past two years, I’ve had the privilege to serve as Kari’s adviser at The Daily Evergreen. I have nothing but praise for the quality of her work as a graphic designer and for the leadership she has shown in the department.

From day one, Kari has impressed me with her creative skills and her willingness to go above and beyond whenever she has been asked to do something. We quickly learned that Kari valued quality workmanship in every project she tackled, whether it was designing an ad for a local business, redesigning our rate card or creating a cover for a special section in the paper. She set the bar high and wouldn’t settle for anything less than her best effort.

And it wasn’t just her skills as a designer that set her apart from her peers. She has maintained a pleasant, friendly attitude during the most stressful situations. This is no small thing at the Evergreen where daily deadlines add to the pressure that students are under. Kari has always remained calm and in control even under the most difficult of circumstances and has had a steadying influence in the department. If there was one person we could always turn to in a crisis, it was Kari.

Kari added to her duties last spring when she was elected manager of the graphics department. Her organizational skills and ability to work with a diverse group of people made her a natural for the position. Under her leadership, the department has functioned efficiently and without the rancor or divisiveness that has occurred in prior years. She has maintained a good working relationship with other student managers and staff and has continued to dazzle us with her outstanding designs and creativity.

{excerpt…} Kari is a bright and creative student who takes her responsibilities as a student very seriously.

I have known Kari for four years, both as a student and as an advisee. In class, Kari always shows a willingness to learn, an eagerness to participate, and an ability to work well with others. She is disciplined in her studies, and has a quiet self-confidence that shows in her written, oral, and visual communication skills. Kari’s intellectual curiosity shows in her collegial relationships with classmates, her superb communication skills, and her respect for ideas that lie outside her own. I believe these qualities not only make her a great student, but also enable her to adapt to new situations.

She is a dedicated student, a thoughtful and open individual, and an all around good person.
